THE WAY FORWARD III(BACK TO FARM)

We once proposed a public private partnership where the land holding belongs to the government, the private sector provide the capital to purchase the required equipment and the government hires professional staff (from our vibrant research institutes and abroad) and labor to manage the farm. The output is shared between the government and the private sector investors based on commission (after paying wages, rent and over-head) while the labor force who have been trained on how efficiently utilize these equipment would own the equipment after 2-3 years. So its a win-win situation. Over time the labor work force would grow into professional farmers who control reasonable land holdings. This kind of a system is similar to what is attainable else where because it promotes division of labor and value addition. ABDULAZIZ MALA @yerwafato
